Katie is an award-winning journalist who has led the editorial teams at Bankrate, HerMoney, Interest, Bargaineering and Bankaholic. She has covered, assigned and edited personal finance and related content at national web publications and newspapers for more than a decade.

Mike Cetera

Editor in chief, Forbes Marketplace North America

Mike has written and edited articles about mortgages, banking and credit cards for a decade. Prior to joining Forbes Advisor, his work appeared on Bankrate, CreditCards.com and The Points Guy. Mike has also offered his personal finance expertise in numerous television, radio and print interviews.

Korrena Bailie

Editorial director, Forbes Advisor US

Korrena Bailie has been a personal finance writer and editor for nearly a decade, with a focus on credit cards, credit and product reviews. She previously worked at Wirecutter, Credit Karma and Bankrate Insurance and has been featured in The New York Times. She has a B.A. in English Literature and a master’s degree in Creative Writing from Queen’s University, Belfast.

Forbes Advisor is looking for an editor with breaking news editing and reporting experience to join the Consumer Finance team as Lead Editor.

Who You Are

You have extensive experience working in a fast-paced news environment and can skim congressional bills while juggling assignments and edits across a variety of consumer and personal financial topics. You’re passionate about educating readers on complex issues and have a strong background in fact-checking, line editing and copy editing. You’re skilled at handling a multitude of projects and enjoy working cross-functionally with writers, other editors, SEO, product and tech. You have experience mentoring junior writers and editors.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and structure the editorial process for the consumer finance team, while also doing several first and top edits daily on consumer finance topics (e.g. stimulus, unemployment, student loans) and personal finance topics (budgeting, taxes, managing debt)
  • Create and implement best practices for the consumer finance editorial team, including reporting and editing standards, content templates, freelancer management, photography and social media standards
  • Generate compelling pitches for relevant topics of the day and plan for future news coverage
  • Work collaboratively with our in-house tax staff writer and SEO analysts to ideate and assign tax stories and build out our tax vertical. This will include building methodologies to rate and rank related tax products and services
  • Collaborate with product, tech and SEO to create helpful tools and calculators
  • Find, recruit, onboard and manage new editors, staff writers and freelancers. Train and support the team on how to use the Forbes Advisor publishing, assignment and invoicing tools
  • Create a calendar of special features and manage partnerships with survey companies
  • Oversee publishing on CMS and ensure adherence to publishing style guide
  • Work with social and PR to ensure timely promotion of breaking news stories and be a spokesperson for Forbes Advisor to the media as needed

Requirements:

  • Strong previous experience in personal finance and breaking news reporting
  • Experience managing both staff writers and freelancers
  • At least five years of experience in online journalism
  • Strong familiarity with SEO best practices in the news space, willingness to learn and expand SEO skills
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented, with knowledge of editorial planning and process
  • Nimble and open to quick changes in strategy
  • Ability to work in a startup environment
  • Ability to present concepts, ideas, strategy and metrics to senior management and other teams
